fun times at work

one of the things that i like about working at daniel smith is the bizzare calls i get. sometimes people just want to talk to me. for hours. about everything. it can be boring. it can be awful especially if its somebody going on about watercolor fairies or something equally as bad.
it can sometimes go weeks without getting a noteworthy call.
today, i got 3 of them!
first one, the woman was a printmaker, but she was ordering watercolors. we talked about the wonders of brown linoleum and using oil based vs water based relief inks, it was very nice.
second, was Catherine Cardarelli! she was my commercial photography teacher. she was transferred over to me and after i realized who she was i told her all about dusting pigments onto transparent medium...
third. a woman named Janis. Janis, you are my new hero. she is doing huge sculptures out of watercolor paper, and needed to order a very large roll of 300lb watercolor paper. talking to her was great. she told me to look up Libby Black, she does sculptures of using the patterns on designer bags out of paper. AWESOME. i am in love with the boombox. it rules at life. she got that pattern right on.
the conversation continued until we reached the ever exciting point of talking about PRINTMAKING. she mentioned that in the town that she lives, there is a studio that had a random press there, she didnt know what it was doing there, but it looked like it was for free or for sale or something. i am excited. hey roadtrip to california to get a press. but, she is my new best friend, she was all like "it was so wonderful to talk to you, please call me for a coffee when you get here, you have my phone number!" (well, i had to have it to take her order.) it was pretty awesome.
